Earth Friendly Gifts from India

Jaggery is a women-led social enterprise based in Gurgaon, India that converts industrial waste material into a range of professional bags and multipurpose accessories. The organization is founded on the principles of sustainability, fair trade, and global citizenry. They are proud to align their goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

One of Jaggery’s primary goals is to play an integral part in developing solutions that counter the world’s pollution problems. To that end, they source locally from various waste streams to use as raw materials. By using discarded auto seat belts, old car seat buckles, punctured bouncy castles, decommissioned defense-grade canvas, army tents and parachutes, they are keeping industrial waste out of landfills and reducing the carbon footprint.

[Note: All components and hardware (i.e. zippers, pulls, clips) are new and top-of-the-line (YKK, ITW Nexus, Duraflex).]

Socially, they run projects with various women-led self-help groups from around the country. Through these collaborations, Jaggery is able to empower artisans and craftspeople in Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal by helping generate a sustained source of livelihood for them.
