About the Makers

This Peace by Piece International partner, Amani Ya Juu, (Kenya & Uganda, Africa) meaning “Peace from Above” in Swahili, Amani is a sewing and reconciliation program for marginalized women. It was founded in 1996 with four women sewing placemats together in Nairobi. Today, there are over 200 women in the group. Guided by their faith, they work together transcending cultural and ethnic differences. In the face of conflict and poverty, they regain hope and stability and share peace-building initiatives.
