My Cup of Tea
At My Cup of Tea, their mission is to walk with women beyond the boundaries of poverty and neglect and assist them in finding their purpose. My Cup of Tea is a non-profit, social enterprise located in the heart of Orange Mound, a neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee, considered the oldest African American community in the country. They import the highest quality tea from tea estates and gardens in the Far East to The House at Orange Mound, where it is weighed, re-formatted, and packaged for sale by women who impact the historic neighborhood.
Meet Diane
“Watching the ladies enter and remain a part has been like planting flowers. Some are wilted, others lifeless, but upon pruning, watering, and fertilizing, beauty is revived.”
Diane joined My Cup of Tea in 2016 where she plays a critical role. Besides interviewing applicants, she teaches the employment curriculum known as Work Life. Diane wanted to be a nurse, but she married young and grappled with drug addiction. After fighting through recovery and leaning on God to get her through, she shares her story with other women facing similar challenges.
“When they come in broken, I share that I’ve been broken too.”
