ABLE’s mission is to empower women around the world through fashion. What began as a project to help women coming out of the sex industry in Ethiopia has become an international investment in women.
ABLE partners with fashion vendors in Ethiopia, Brazil, Mexico, India, China, Portugal and in their home city of Nashville, Tennessee.
Over 90% of ABLE staff are women. Additionally, all ABLE leather products are upcycled from discarded animal hides and designed to minimize waste by using deadstock and scrap
Meet Mamuye
Every ABLE product is named after an inspiring woman. In 2014, when the Mamuye (pronounced MUH-MOO-YAY) Tote was introduced, it was named after this beautiful woman. At the time, Mamuye was only 24 years old, but she had amazing ambition. She had been working with ABLE’s leather partner for almost 5 years and loved being trained, learning about the stitching aspects of the leather craft, and growing her skills. Her goal was to be promoted to quality control and that dream has come true. Mamuye has received a salary raise, become more specialized in her craft and in stitching, and created new goals for herself.
Your gift has purpose far beyond the value it adds to your wardrobe. While not all of ABLE’s pieces are named after the women who work directly with ABLE, they continue to name their pieces after courageous women as a reminder that change is possible. Hope is possible. She is ABLE, and you are ABLE.
